New to sim racing? Key terms explained
Direct Drive Wheelbase
The motor that connects to your steering wheel and provides force feedback. Direct drive means the motor connects directly with no belts or gears — giving sharper, more detailed feel.
Nm Torque
Newton-metres — measures how strong the force feedback is. 9Nm feels like a real road car. 15–20Nm feels like a racing car. More Nm = more physical, more realistic. Beginners: 9–12Nm is plenty.
Force Feedback FFB
The technology that makes your wheel push back and react to what's happening on track — bumps, tyre grip, understeer, kerbs. The better the FFB, the more connected you feel to the car.
Load Cell Pedals
Measures how hard you press the brake (pressure), not how far you push it. This is how real racing car brakes work — much easier to brake consistently at the limit. A major upgrade from standard pedals.
Hydraulic Pedals
Uses real hydraulic fluid to replicate the feel of a racing car brake pedal. The ultimate in brake realism — the pedal resists more as you push harder, exactly like a real racing car. Premium choice.
Quick Release QR
The connector between your wheelbase and steering wheel. A good QR lets you swap wheels in seconds with zero play or wobble. All products in this builder include a compatible QR system.
Wheel Rim Steering Wheel
The steering wheel itself — separate from the wheelbase motor. Comes in GT style (round, like a road car) or Formula style (open, like an F1 car). Must match your wheelbase brand.
Cockpit / Rig Optional
The chassis that holds your wheel, pedals and seat in the correct driving position. Makes your setup more realistic and eliminates desk flex. Optional — your gear will work on a desk too.
